Where writers workshop writing!

About Us

#Writers-Workshop is a literature community group driven by the concept of personal development for writers. We run a variety of workshops led by members of the community, all of which allow writers of all abilities to discover new forms, develop new skills, and have a bit of fun with new writing tasks.

We operate on a three-week basis with a single workshop being run during each period. These workshops may cover anything from techniques in writing, styles, poetry and prose forms, themes and/or genres. They range from fiction to non-fiction, scriptwriting to haiku.

We also occasionally have workshops based on revision, critique, and the re-drafting and editing process. The workshop aim is to ensure we provide a wide range of workshops that appeal to different people and which encourage writers to try new things.

:star: The breakdown of each workshop looks like this:
:bulletgreen: Reading week: The first week will give you time to review the workshop brief and start writing. It is essential that you read the workshop description as pieces will get rejected by the group if submissions do not fulfill the workshop requirements.
:bulletgreen: Workshop and Submission Week: The group opens to receive workshop submissions. Once this week is over we will no longer accept submissions.
:bulletgreen: Critique week: You can start critiquing and reviewing each others pieces as soon as they're submitted to the workshop in Week 2, but this week will focus exclusively on the critique and feedback.

:star: Advice for workshop participants:
:bulletblue: DO show your enthusiasm for the workshops and comment on the journals.
:bulletblue: DO expect to critique/comment on other peoples' entries. Anyone can be thoughtful and helpful, no matter how much experience they have.
:bulletblue: DO NOT feel that a decline is a comment on quality. Your piece is likely to get declined on the first submission attempt and you will receive an explanation as to why. This is so you produce a piece of work that fulfills the workshop requirements.
:bulletblue: DO ensure that is you are a subscriber, you encourage advanced critique so the critique system can be used.

NOTE: IF you revise your piece during the workshop, you must include the original version in the same deviation (I.e. use your artists comments section or the bottom of the deviation.)

:star: Objective: As a group, we encourage members to press beyond their limits and develop their skills, both as writers and as critics. We're not about competition - there are no prizes. The workshop is here for you to make the most of your own writing experience and the knowledge of other writers.

:star: On critique and revision: As you may know from past experience, the first draft is only the first part of writing process. We encourage all members to offer critique and feedback, even when not participating in a workshop. You can learn a lot by looking in-depth as another person's work; you might pick up on things that you can use in your own pieces. We also urge you to interact as this also ties in the work-shopping nature of the group - a format that is utilized in universities, writing groups, and beyond. No matter how many redrafts a piece has gone through, there's always room for improvement.

Finally, welcome to the group and thank you for taking the time to check us out. We look forward to your participation. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like to host a workshop!

Thank you!

My name is Phill and I'm a PhD student operating out of Perth, Western Australia. I've been here on dA for quite some time and in doing so have made a great number of contacts, especially in the dAlit community. I read a lot, write not as much as I'd like, and sleep even less than that.

Hi! I'm PaperDart, or Charlotte, or Charli, but preferably not 'that freak' (although I may make an exception if you have particularly good justification).

I write because I can't seem to stop; because when I was small I wanted to be a writer and one day I realised I could; because part of me is arrogant enough to believe that I'm good at it.

Critique makes me happy, whether I'm giving it or getting it. I sometimes have to remind myself that most people don't think Mathematics is a language. I believe that art is one of the more prominent methods of subcreation that God has given humankind, but not the only one.

I intended to start by dipping my toes into the waters of dA, but somehow ended up knee deep without trying. The waves can be scary, but I can't say they're not beautiful.
